USB Nightmares

I'm the proud owner of a 2011 X6M. I'm also the owner who has, 2-weeks into ownership, broken my USB Jack (center console). Those of you who own an X-Series BMW know that the placement of the jack is not in the most ideal location and very susceptible to impact or stress from foreign objects. Nevertheless, it was I who broke it.

[To be specific, it's the "tongue" (don't know the technical term) inside the female-end or BMW-end of the USB jack that broke. The Y-Adaptor is fine.]

I took my X6M to the dealer and explained the situation they said they'd fix it. There was a bit of (what I will call) a "miscommunication". That said, they were unable to fix it and told me they would have to order a new wiring-harness from germany (even though the X-Series is assembled in Spartanburg, S. Carolina) which would take something like 4-6 weeks.

The dealer says that this is such a new car they do not have such parts for it. I find it hard to believe that the wiring-harness is different between the 2011 and the 2010 or even between the X6 and the X5 series.

Has anyone broken their USB Jack (Center console or Glove Box) and been through this already? I'd love to hear your story and how you overcame the situation and any long-term solutions you came up with in terms of preventing the fragile USB Jack from being damaged when putting items in you center console storage box (aside from being more careful about it).
