It is somewhat hard on the equipment, but not as bad as if there was a clutch. The manual says it won't let you do it during the break-in period, and that there is a cooling off time between runs. Both points suggest that BMW is aware of the increased stress on the vehicle.

I'm not exactly sure how much time you have to give between launches, but I don't think it's more than 5 minutes. When I tried doing it one stop sign after another it didn't work the second time. But a few minutes later it let me do it again. I'm sure you'll be fine doing it 5 times at the drags. But it's basically brake torquing, so the longer you're revving up and holding down the brakes, the harder it'll be on your torque converter. I usually just play with it at stop signs where I can hit the gas, wait for the checkered flag then go right away. Whereas at a stop light, you may be sitting there for several seconds.

Yep, it's should be okay but regardless it places extra stress on your vehicle. Remember, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

is it true that bmw can check how much you've done it?

They could with previous launch control-equipped M models, so I would expect they have retained that feature.

i heard that if you launch it more than 3 times it voids your warranty, but i have heard of so many people using it, does anyone know if this is true??

What does your warranty say?

Don't press the M button, put it in sport, stand on the brake and gas. Then go. Seems to be just as fast without activating LC.
