Need a picture of under the rear license plate for an X5M. Corrosion issues still

I need a picture of the spot under the rear license plate.

A strange request, I know. I have been having issues with corrosion in the rear tailgate. First the camera and now the rear taillights. I washed the truck yesterday and while drying the rear hatch I realized it is full of water. Water just kept running out of every opening (i.e. the latch). I went looking around for a place the water could get in. I noticed that under the license plate is a hole with no grommet or anything to cover it. Does anyone else have this hole with nothing covering it?

Anyone else getting water in the taillights?

Thanks
Marc

Hey,

I was just about to get the M washed and I saw your post, so I took a few photos for you. There are no holes but the 2 screw holes (white) for the plate bracket on the entire rear. the two dark squares in the photos are just "clean" spots haha. I took a photo of my holder too, maybe its somehow different then yours?

i havent had any water in the lights either. ( 2010 or 2011 )

anyway hope that helps and good luck...

First off, you remove the license plate to wash the truck?!? There is mecication to help with things like that.

Thank you very much for the pictures. So it looks like the place that installed my laser jammer drilled a hole to put the wires into the tailgate. This corrosion issue has been going on for a while. Several times the dealer has stated that the aftermarket jammer install was not the issue. Good news for me.

I just want to know why it seemed like my tailgate was full of water.

Thanks
M

Well, thank you for taking it off just for me. I did not know they put the hole in the car. Not sure if it is what is causing the problems.

the jammer works great.

M

PS. how do you like the F4? I have had many Ducatis and looking for a new bike. I really like the look of the Agusta. Also thinking of the new BMW RR.

998M you should get some black silicone sealant and fill up the hole.

True. But why the hell didn't the company that put it in do that. I am pissed at them if that is what is causing this problem.

thank you for the suggestion.

Yes I would be pissed too. They should have asked your permission to drill a hole in the trunk lid. Also they should have used a rubber grommet to fill the hole in then feed the wiring through that.

I'm willing to bet thats the cause of the water getting in. Not to mention with the wires rubbing on that bare metal they are bound to get slices and short out over time.

i would be so upset with them. have them fix it and take care of the damage...

The f4 is something else, the power has to be respected. i had to ease into it at first. Nothing looks like it and i also like how you almost never see them.
I have a r1 raven and ducati 998s in the barn too. i had a ducati streetfighter for a short time but a moving company literally dropped it out of the back of their truck,
it died. it was an odd bike anyway...

I love the bmw rr, that's my next bike for sure...
