Hmmmm..... I just mentioned this problem to my service advisor, he said "give me a minute", called me back and said "there's a recall for this - new brake pads".
I had it fixed within three days of me mentioning it. It's not a big deal, really. You definitely do NOT require the intervetion of a regional supervisor/"mechanical rep. I'm surprised your service advisor made such a big hoopla out of it. Glad you got it rectified, however.

Did you get a service bulletin number or recall number to reference on the paperwork. I wonder if if the number is different in Canada? Probably is.

I'm going in for rears tomorrow, I'll ask about 'recall' brake pads. But at 67k mi. They'll tell me to blow.
Addendum 8/12. I just did front brakes, that's where my back up squeal was originating from. I believe they made an upgrade to the pads backing material that goes against the pistons. If you think you have plenty of life left on your rotors and pads you could probably clean up everything really well and fix your situation, but as I looked it over, I just replaced everything up front. You'd have to take everything apart anyway so your probably better off doing the brake job at that point.
