X6er is on a distinguished road
help needed - applying 3m stone chip guard to X6M body

This is to protect X6M doors and wheel arches from the sand blasting effect produced due to 20" tires and flared wheel arches.
Folks who have done this, where do I apply it? my worry is to have it on the doors low enough or high enough to not provide enough protection or to have the line where the film ends visible in an ugly way.
with the X5 it is a bit easier as you can go under the door trim hence you hide the edge of the film, but with the X6 where is the best place for the film to end (or start depending on the way you look at it).
I need your help fast as I am expecting the car in the next few days. Thanks.
