Extended Warranty
Long time BMW owner looking to get into X5M. I have found a good deal on a used X5M but it is not CPO. Just wondering if anyone knows if the extended warranty prices available from the stealership are negotiable or fixed price everywhere? If the prices are negotiable does anyone know where the best prices can be had? Thanks in advance. |

103 views and no one has an answer, guess the board has died since I last visited some years ago. So sad.

Rather than just posting in a thinly read sub forum here, why not toss up your question in the more general boards?
And, though Search here ain't GOOG, try the Search Tab, and also try your question in GOOG: it often brings up links from this board. GL, mD

The warranty that I bought from the used car lot where I got my X (not a BMW dealership) negotiated a little bit. They showed me their cost and their usual margin on it then we met in the middle. If I recall right, I got about $500 off the regular price.
Hope that helps. And it never hurts to ask for a discount as long as you're willing to hear "no".

In order to get a BMW Extended Warranty, your vehicle still needs to be under the original 4/50k warranty. Then you have three options, Powertain Plus, Gold and Platinum.
After looking at the prices, I decided to roll the dice, $5-6k for an extra 3 years of coverage doesn't make a lot of sense. Chris |

Mine wound up being worth it. The warranty cost $5000 and has covered about $7000 worth of repairs.

See my sig - it's a 2006 4.4i.
Since I've owned it, the following repairs have been covered under warranty: New alternator Oil pan gasket Valve stem seals Mechatronic wiring sleeve (included new trans fluid and labor for a drain and fill) Alternator bracket seal Passenger mirror motor The following items have been repaired but not covered: Power steering reservoir and hoses (hoses are not covered and the reservoir damage was caused by "outside influences" - aka a clogged filter) CCVs (emissions items are not covered) Door handle carrier (considered a body part, which is not covered) Upper radiator hose (hoses aren't covered) Transmission pan (required for the Mechatronic seal work but warranty wouldn't cover it for some reason)

Bummer! That's quite a list. FYI, your sig isn't showing up.
