Question Key fob dead, nothing opening

Hi all! I have a 2004 E83 and my key fob has been dead for a while. But when I opened the car manually with the key all the locks would still lock and unlock. Now it must be really dead because that has now stopped working and I have to use the key to open my door, then I have to get in and close the door and then press the main unlock button on the dash by the center vent to open the rest of the doors.

So my questions is do I just need to replace both my dead keys for that to work again, or is there something like a fuse that may be out? Also, being that it's 2025, has anyone recently went to the dealer to buy replacement keys? How much should I be ready to pay for those new key fobs and keys?

Thanks!

Most will tell you the best practice is to replace both keys but yes you can replace a key at a time.

I have not recently gone to the dealership for anything. When I did last check with the dealership the cost was $270 for a replacement that was probably in 2017 maybe.
