X3 in the shop - 3series loaner

I took my X3 in this morning to get some things checked out. First off, my BMW assist is not working. If I press the button, the screen says "BMW Assist Inactive". My SA called back 4 hours after I dropped of the car, said that the TCU is bad and they will need to replace it. They should have that part in tomorrow and it will be done the same day. And also my Sat Nav is European mode. While the fix the TCU, they are going to recode that and get everything straight again. I'm very happy with Peter Pan BMW in San Mateo.

As for the loaner, I got a 325i. It handles amazingly. The gas mileage is good, and it has nice features inside. I like how the blinker works. It also has a 6-speed auto. But it seems if you aren't in sport mode, it shifts from 1st to 2nd way too soon. The power is adequate, but it would have been nice to get a 330i. But then again, gas prices here in the city are on the rise again, big time.

Anyways, I'll update here when I pick up my X3.

Did you not like Euro mode on the Nav? I prefer not to have the Accept screen. I'm on the fence with the 3 series turn signals it doesn't have the tactile feel and placement as the X has. To each his own, I guess.

I don't like that the distance is measured in yards. I have no problem pressing accept. I hope the implement the turn signals from the 3 into the face-lifted X3.

It is my understanding that all BMW STEPtronics start out in 2nd gear to save gas - unless you punch it, put it in M1, or in the sport mode...

I think that is incorrect. I have an auto and it always starts in 1st gear, whether in normal drive or sport mode. I can start in 2nd gear in manual mode, but it always starts in 1st gear from a dead stop.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I think that it'll start in 2nd under certain circumstances. When in relaxed, normal Drive and I stop briefly at a stop sign, it'll start in 2nd, presumably for fuel economy. However, if in SD, it always starts in 1st.

Mine starts from 1st gear. BUT I think that's because Steptronics "adapts" and adjusts the gear-change to the way the driver drives, so it may have already have adjusted to the way I drive.

Anyone with a brand new X3 can try this out?
