Problems with the AUX output

I have been having problems with my AUX on the stereo. Sometimes while I am driving with my Ipod playing the stereo will switch from AUX to a radio station for no reason. When I try and switch it back, the AUX doesn't even show up. Any idea what the problem could be? I had the AUX cable installed at a local dealer here in Germany, so I may just have to take it back. I just want to make sure there is nothing that I am doing wrong. Thanks.

I would guess that you either have a radio module problem or an intermitent connection problem. If you can, try to reseat the Aux cable connections. If that doesn't correct it then you have a radio module issue. The Aux input kit is nothing more than some wiring and capacitors. All of the "magic" happens in the radio module itself.

How do I reset the AUX cable connection? Are you saying to reconnect it again? If that is the case I will then take it back to the dealer since I paid them 100 Euro to install it in the first place. Thanks.

Yes, have the connections reseated (reconnected).

I am having the same problem. How did you resolve it? I installed the AUX adaptor myself and can't figure out what the problem is.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

I have not had a chance to take my vehicle back to the dealer and have them look at it (with the dearlers in Germany any type of work is an all day affair). I will try and get this done in the next week and keep you posted.

Hey guys. I have the same issue. The way I get around it is to let my Ipod run on batteries instead of plugging it in to a 12v charger. It only happens when I have my ipod playing and plugged in - go figure? I don't know if you will get the same results but i'm curious to know.

Hi all,
I try to install the Aux cable myself using common 3-wire stereo cable instead of genuine BMW aux cable, however after i have the wires connected then press the mode button the Aux mode never display not to say Aux source music (i use a NAND flash type Mp3) been played. I also don't think there is any magic in the Aux cable, so i wonder this installation should be done in the authorized store where they will set-up the headunit. Seeing this thread can anyone confirm that before you have Aux-in installed the "mode" key can switch from Radio-CD-CDC and Aux? And they work the same when you have your aux-source power off?
hanks very much! Btw, anyone know how the 3 corlor of the cable match to Aux-L, Aux-R and Ground?

Thanks very much!

If you take a look at page 12 of this document you will see that there is more then just a common audio cable connection involved. The circuitry, comprised of some resistors and capacitors, isn't complex but needs to be there for the AUX to work properly and for the head unit to detect that it is present. Also note that only radio modules 2003 and newer support AUX input.

Without the AUX input connected, when you press the MODE button and cycle through the options you will not see AUX as one of the available selections. Once a properly configured AUX cable is connected to the head unit then the AUX selection will be present.

Thanks for the answer, now i can have work to do on the weekend. One more question, is the coupling capacitors (0.22 F) in the document a typo of 0.22 u F? Since 0.22 F is quite big for such application.

Thanks in advance!
