Question about remote controlling the power windows.

What's up everyone!?!?!

I was wondering if there is a way to program the X3 so that you don't have to hold down the button on the remote key to open all the windows and sunroof. Yesterday while I was walking to my X3 after leaving the office I opened all the windows remotely but accidentally took my finger off the button but all the windows kept opening by themselves.

I just stopped in the middle of the parking lot while I saw this happening. It's as if I saw a ghost or something.

Anyone have any ideas?

I do want them to open but I want to know is if there is a way to just press the button on the key to have the windows opened automatically without holding down the button on the key.

Ahh..I see. Im trying to jog my memory now. At the moment, the amount of time you hold the key, is relative to the amount the window opens, right? I know there are a few kits out there that will allow you to manipulate the remote window mechanism, but not sure if it will help your situation. There are universal kits on ebay that might be able to hook you up...

That sucks...I thought I might be able to program the feature instead of buying a kit.

DAMN!

i don't have a solution for you, but i have to think that this could be tricky. if you just want to press the button instead of holding it down, how would the X3 know that you want the windows down versus unlocking the door? if it were raining, you'd get the inside of your car soaked by just trying to unlock the doors because the X3 wouldn't "know" you just want the doors unlocked and not open the windows, right? the alternative would be a separate remote for just the windows or a specific sequence of key presses on the original remote to open the windows to separate it from unlocking the doors...

First - thanks R6! That was kind of you!

Second - about the power windows and sunroof - here is a link to the list of dealer programmable features. http://www.x3world.com/articles/x3/g...es-bmw-x3.html

I did not see what you were asking for on the list. While there might be other possibilities, you would need to check with the dealer. That being said, I think r6girl's comments are well taken... there are times where opening everything every time might be less than optimal.

Let me know what you find out!

Yup! And therein lies the problem.

True, but what if you could hold the button down for, say, 5 seconds and once the windows begin going down, you can let go of the button and they'll completely open?

also, you could stop them by pressing the lock button, etc.
