October 22, 2006 BMW CCA LA Auto-x

I have shown that the X3 can stay shiny side up during auto-x and still be competitive. So...how many of you are coming to the 10/22/06 BMW CCA LA Chapter auto-x at Hollywood Park?

I have gotten interesting comments from the instructors about x3 vs x5. All agree that the x5 is not suited for auto-x and all praise the x3. I strongly encourage everybody in so cal to attend!

Well...I am all packed up and ready to go. I filled up with about 13 gallons of Union 76 100 octane unleaded since it is probably going to be very hot here in LA tomorrow. Tires at 36 psi all around cold. Lug nuts torqued, oil checked windows cleaned (I am really bad at windows), everything out of the car. New helmet in the car along with gloves (work and driving), pyrometer, air gauge, mini compressor...

Just because it is a BMW club event, I washed, waxed (zaino), vacuumed and detailed the wheel wells. I realize it is going to get dirty but at least it will start off clean.

Even if you so cal people choose not to particiapte you should still come and watch. The LA chapter puts on a good event and you will get to see some really cool BMW's. The instructors will give "e" ticket rides which make the schlep totally worthwhile.

Watch for results and videos tomorrow night. Now if only it was raining I might stand a chance of getting a trophy...

LOL! Next week is one of the BMW-sponsored Ultimate Driving events where they'll have the '07 X3 3.0si and a track set up. There's also a street drive for the other BMW models. Looks like it might rain next weekend, so it'll get interesting on the auto-x track. Of course, the pics will come.......

(By the way, I've got 2 invitations left........if anyone in the area's interested PM me asap.)

Well... I got close to my goal. Thanks to an unusually dirty (and hence slippery) track, I managed to get 2nd place in "c" class (all 6, 8 and 12 cylinder BMW's stock) out of 19 cars running. My time would have gotten me 6th out of 11 in M stock, 5th out of 14 in M modified, 6th out of 15 in the non-BMW class (I was faster than a 03 vette, 2 06 mustangs, and a s2000), I would have won the "a" class (all 4 cylinder stock), won the Mini Cooper "s" class, placed 3rd out of 3 in the Mini Cooper class and taken 2nd in "d" class (all 6, 8 and 12 cylinder BMW's modified). In "c" class I beat some E90 330i's, some E90 325i's, a couple of Z4's, a Z3, some E30 325i's, an 02 540i and an 05 530i.

To see the in car videos go to http://www.randall-harris.com/X3_Auto_x.html

Sorry the last one is so dark. It was getting late. Since I do timing and scoring I need to run last.

Turn the sound up...there are some great audio clips of the engine!

Thanks for all of your support!

Damn Randy! That's some pretty hot driving. The word will be getting out to watch out for the white X3. The uninitiated will surely scoff until they are schooled by you.

See you this weekend!

Thanks Kevin...it was pretty wild. Let's just hope my poor X3 will make such a grueling (sp?) trip to the desert...

X3 will withstand anything short of a nuclear blast. I've taken it off-roading (not hardcore off-roading, but not easy stuff either), through a foot of standing water, a hot 100F day with AC on in traffic, and torrential downpours. This winter, it'll see a few days of Canadian winter. And White05X3 has proven it on the track (Can't wait till the BMW-sponsored event on sunday). When you think about it, no other SUV in its price range does everything quite as well. Oh and of course, nothing sounds quite as good either.

INCREDIBLE RESULTS! Well done!
