X3 dinan mod's

We just reurned from out trip to NC which gave me a complete experience of the Dinan modifications(Mass air flow and stage 2 programming). The truth is if I had it to do over I most certainly would. The car performed extremely well in all the different terrains on the trip. I especially enjoyed driving up to flat top in Boone NC as well as Grandfather mountain(ski beech). There is considerable difference in the way the car pulls and accelerates all the time, but especially when put under demand. We live in Florida so it was a real nice change of driving conditions. I have seen a couple of negative reponses about Dinan and what kind of return you get power vs. cost. I feel certain now that I will go through with other mod's in the next year. Thats my opinion anyway. I know it's not a 4.4 X5, but it is a whole lot of fun for me. My wife was skeptical as well, but after driving on the trip and through the mountains she is covinced as well.

Congrats on your Dinan mods. What other mods do you think you will do?

I think that people give DINAN a bad name about the power vs. cost issue because they don't have the highest numbers possible and they are more expensive than less reliable tuners.

However, R&D costs money, full warranty coverage costs money, and reliability costs money. The people that complain probably had Japanese ricer cars and are used to getting power for low cost, but forget that they are now driving a high cost German engineered vehicle, that 95% of people will never modify.

If more people bought performance parts for their high end German cars, then pricing would come down, but 95% of people are fine with leaving well enough alone. German engineers get it right almost all of the time.

I would love to purchase DINAN parts for my future BMW vehicle, but more than likely, I won't because it will be almost perfect from the get go. Plus, if I want more speed, better handling and braking, and overall fun, I jump on the motorbike

I wonder if the if the engine and tranny software for the E46 would work for a 3.0 X3. It would be nice to see Dinan develop additional performance software for the engines and transmission for the '07 3.0si. Also, VF Engineering is developing a supercharger for the X3. The specs for a supercharged E46 3.0 engine are 330 hp, and 275 lb/ft torque. Now that would be some serious

Dinan X3 mod's 2

I appreciate your responses. I am happy that a BMW dealer installs these mod's and that it is still under BMW's warranty. I am probably going to do the throttle body and the exhaust next. You may have not purchased your X3 to go fast, but I will tell you that it is built by BMW to handle alot more power than it comes with stock. Ask the guy I was following in the VIper on 95 on the way home from the mountains. It was great.

Sounds like fun!

I wish Dinan would come out w/'04+ V8 & tranny software. I have a feeling it'll never happen...
