Davidr: Took the time to post detailed pictures of his retro fit that helped me greatly.

G'Day Mate,

Firstly congratulations on your purchase. The car is a beauty.....

I have been looking at the Nav retrofit option for quite a while now. And I would highly appreciate if you could pass on the detailed instructions to me as well.

The actual unit I'm think of buying from Individual Car Consulting on eBay.

Did you have to buy any additional spares in OZ to complete the install.

And since you have already gone through the whole process, I thought I'd ask you.

Did you do it yourself or took it somewhere to get it installed professionally.I am in Melbourne and am still looking around for someone who can do it for me.I have the BMW retrofit instructions but I'm not too confident of doing it myself nor do I have any tools for the same.

Therefore, any assistance from your side will be of great help...

Cheers,
Driv3r

Driv3r,

More than happy to talk you through the highs and lows of doing my Retrofit.

I got my kit from individual Cars on Ebay.

One thing you need to know is Custom's will charge you the GST so expect to pay 10% more AUS dollars.

The kit comes with everything you need to get it working.

The additional things I had to purchase was the following.

-- Australian BMW Nav Maps $430 AUS
-- Rolf Resler IBUS Interface $45 EUR
-- Rear LHS NAV Trim Cover $240 AUS(has to be ordered from germany via your local BMW Dealer takes 3 weeks) The orginal cover has an indent that hits the NAV Unit if yours is flat then you wont need this.
-- NAV Coder IBUS Software (FREE) thanks to Kiwijochen
-- BMW Nav 29.1 Software update (FREE) you can download from forum
-- BMW in Queensland quoted $120 per hour to install it and said it would take them 2 days
So I did it the install myself

This install itself took me all day to complete. Much to my surprise the Australian 07 X3 was not prewired for Sat Nav so I had to use the wire harness in the Retro Fit Kit.

I didnt really need any special tools to complete it just a screw driver and hands was all I needed.

One thing to take note of is be careful where you place the GPS Antenna as the one supplied is for a Left hand drive so if you place it in the same spot as the instructions you will find yourself about 1 foot short.

You dont need to be a brain surgeon to do this it is somewhat easy if you take your time.

Am more than happy to talk you through this over the phone if you require any help let me know and I can PM you my mobile number.

Cheers
Shane

. That's the perfect interior combo! I'm jealous of your diesel too! Do they offer a manual transmission in Australia w/ the diesel?
