For the 20-millionth time, a good vehicle does not need to be fast. It's always the American obsession with speed and horsepower figures . I always think of the Europeans on this board that are perfectly happy with a 2 litre diesel. I also don't believe you can step into an X5 at $45k.......isn't the price of admission somewhere north of $46k? And the X5 3.0si would also be slower and heavier. But yes, the automatic transmission is probably pretty stupid because the gearing is all messed up if you look at the ratios of the 6-speed auto and the short final drive. I don't know what the Germans were thinking.

The photography is cool though.

Don't like the look of the sport with the body-coloured bumpers. Review doesn't have much substance to it, either.

Agree with AzNM that there is plenty of power there. We ordered the si with 260 hp, but the i with 215 hp would have been enough, coming from a 325xi with 184 hp. We didn't like the double-spoke 17" wheels on the i, or the headlights, or the manual air conditioning, and would have paid extra for privacy glass, so it wasn't much more to just get the si.

I don't know what they are thinking, 6.9 0-60 is really good, and it has great power. Did they forget it came in 2.5i and 3.0i forms previously?
Agreed that the sport pack is unattractive.

You know with what your saying. Haveing bought new a 504 Peugoet diesel and drove it to death i was a bit sad when selling them in our state ended. I'm looking forward to 2008. We had an X3 for a few days and i have to say it wasn't my cup of tea. But maybe it wasn't the dressed up model.

I am an American and I am obsessed with speed and horsepower. So shoot me. And a fast car is always better than a slow car. It is un-American to think otherwise.

This should be a man law if it isn't already.

As X3's go, I'd agree they are way overpriced for what they are however that is in keeping with the BMW line-up.

Gone are the days of the X3 2.5i. That started at $30k. Very European pricing structure though.

I can totally see why Consumer Reports and other writers bash on BMW, they are very expensive and there are relatively solid alternatives out there. But then again, nobody needs a Porsche 911 TT

I love it with the sport package.

Might pick one up. That or an RDX.
Who knows.. I keep going back and forth between everything .. even fords, lol.
