Alarm?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone confirm if their X3 has a factory installed / retrofit an alarm from BMW?

I checked with my local dealer a few weeks ago, they said "the X3 is too new, there's no alarm for it yet" I seriously doubted what he said, but I had no choice as they are the only dealer, and has never been helpful when I want to ask / order any accessory.

Only after 6 weeks from new, my X3 was broken into last weekend.

It's available as a dealer (or self-install) option. There are install instructions at http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/X3...structions.pdf

Some install tips can be found at http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/e83/5630103-1.html

Thanks!
The instructions says "Vehicle must have alarm pre-wiring option...." Is there an easy way to check if my X3 MY05 is pre-wired for this?

I know... that's how bad it is with the dealer here. I did tell them according to the info from on the internet, the alarm is available for the X3 from BMW. They said they could not guarantee that it would work on my X3.... US vs Europe vs Asia.. bla bla bla, and it will be "install it at your own risk".

It's a sad fact of life that you have to know more than the person you are trying to buy something from - rare is the person in sales that actually knows what he is selling!

I purchased the retrofit alarm system for my X5 but then couldnt get it to work and had to have it coded at the dealer.....
How come the X3 is available as a self-install if according to the instructions in the above links,it still needs to be coded at the dealer???Here in Portugal, dealers are reluctant to code items not installed by them.....
