2004 X3-Connecting a Phone via BMW Bluetooth

All,

Just purchased a beautifully well taken care of 2004 X3 3.0 this past weekend, and I love it. It came with all of the original documentation, including a form with the car's telephone data. It has BMW Assist, but none of the Telephone set up that I have seen that sits in the middle of the seats.

Do I need all of that to link my phone via Bluetooth to the car? Or is there an easier way? The documents I got are not the greatest in showing how to put this all together. I also have not got a chance to get to the local dealership yet, as they are not that close to me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

To connect your phone by bluetooth with your car you have to :
1/ Switch igniton off
2/ Press the button under the armrest during 10 seconds
3/ Switch igniton on an keep pressing armrest button during 10 seconds.
4/ Release the button. Phone Pairing must apear on the screen.
5/ On your phone : Search for a new bluetooth device.
6/ On your phone : Enter the bluetooth pin code (on you document or under the bluetooth module in the rear of the car.
7/ Swhitch Off and on your car.

You phone is paired with your car :-)

I paired my HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125) but do not recall a button under the armrest. (2006 3.0i - Sport edition)??

Thats strange, to paire my HTC Artemis (3300), I have to push this button. Maybe it's because I have a 2004 X3i Sport.

Thomas, On my 330XI BT pairing is done by same methodology described above. I added the BMW BT module on the 2001 330XI and put the pairing button under the center armrest. Other than Navigation I have upgraded most of the electronics in the 330XI. Radio (for AUX), 4:3 to 16:9 screen, Bluetooth, Carpc, remote starter etc. I play with the car more than driving it.

On the 2006 X3 BT pairing is automatically on for the first 2 minutes the car is on. The X3 has another GSM phone built in for the Roadside Assistance and will work without a phone presence in car. I've talked to the operator to validate its functioning.

I am not sure of the methodology used on a US 2004 X3. My methodology was in the Bluetooth manual with my car documentation.

IIRC, there is no "pairing" button on the Canadian/US X3's... and since you didn't mention it I am assuming you do not have navigation. In any case, the process for pairing is very much like described above with a couple of small modifications:

1. Turn your key to the accessory position (don't need to start the car, but you can if you want). The car will be in pairing mode for something like one to two minutes from start.

2. On your phone, make sure BT is turned on (default off on some phones), then select the appropriate function to search for BT devices.

3. On your phone, select the BMWxxxxx device that appears, then enter the 4-digit PIN number from your BMW documentation when prompted on your phone.

4. Once your phone indicates it has connected, turn OFF the car for 20 sec (*this is from memory... might be longer), then turn back on to the accessory position.

5. At this point, the two devices should connect automatically, and you should see on your radio display "Downloading Phonebook" or something to that effect... you're done!
