X3 Roof Rack - Is it the same as the X5
I am new to the forum but I am taking delivery of a 2004 X3 2.5 with 20K miles on Wednesday. I have been looking at a roof rack from a 2001 X5 and I was wondering if anyone knows if this will fit an X3 - I thinks so looking at some pictures but I am not sure.
Thanks in advance. John |

Be careful with that. They sometimes look similar, but don't fit. I bought on ebay a set of rails marked as "for E46", but they didn't fit our X3. It seems there were some E46 (the first ones maybe) that had the same rails as the E36. On the other hand, I have a friend with a 3 E46 and a 5, and the rails are the same, but the 5 is larger and the rails don't fit each other.
To be safe, buy something that really says X3. They can be bought for around €100 (or $$$ equivalent), so it's not worth to safe a dozen dollars and get a non fitting rail.

Talk to Mike at Morristown BMW (a sponsor of this board) and get the x3world discount with no sales tax on the proper roof rack, if you want the factory rack. I like mine. Simple install and great accessories, also discounted through Morristown BMW. Really a bargain and carries BMW warranty. The X3 rack says "X3" on the bottom. I am not affiliated with Morristown BMW in any way.
