Financing Help
I feel in love with the X3 and decided to get it.....no complaints....except for the financing. When i got there the sales person said he wasnt sure what the rate was on the x3 2.5i but thought it was 2.9.....well he came back and said he was wrong it was 3.9% which isnt bad either.....well when i got home i checked edmunds and on edmunds it says that for the month of august the rate for the 05 x3 2.5 is 2.9%. So what i feel maybe they did was mickey mouse me around......by telling me they'd give 1500 off msrp and then making it up on the interest. I called the finance manager and he said that their dealership wasnt giving that rate and instead have been giving everyone else 3.9% so that there was nothing he could do. My question is......is this legal?? Anything i can do??? Please give me advice.. |

Well, I don't think they did anything illegal. Immoral, maybe, but what do you expect from a car salesman. Edmunds offering you 2.9% is inconsequential to what the dealer offered you. Edmudns could be using a different bank. Who knows? However, 3.9% is still a very good rate. I don't know that I'd complain about that rate.
You have a point: the dealer did the 'ol "bait and switch" trick on you, which is wrong... but not illegal. 3.9 is a great rate. Forget about it, and enjoy your ride! It's a great car. Congrats, and post some pics. Oh yeah, welcome to the board, by the way. Juan

Thanks for your quick reply.....the rate edmunds quotes is the bmw manufactor's finacing rate special for that month on only the x3 2.5i. And since i went through bmw finacing......i dont understand how it could be legal if the on going rate through bmw is 2.9%.

hmmmm... You are absolutely correct. You should consider contacting BMW of North America directly, and see what they say.

i had a similar problem when i got my x5, but i found out that all the bmw dealers get different rates and options from bmw financial center, and it has alot to do with how much the stealer sales and so on....
when my brother and i when looking for his x5 we were able to get 2.9% this was back on 09/04, and them 2 months later i got my x5 and they were trying to give me 4.9% so i asked why not 2.9% like other dealers and they xplained to me how it works, so i told them that i didn`t care that i wanted a better rate, so the manager called me into he office and got on the phone with bmw financial center and asked them if they were going to let them loose the sale, so the bmw financial center manager told us to wait by the fax machine for the new paper work with the new rate 3.9% so i took the X5 |

heh, when I purchased my roadster they quoted 4.9 financing, so I bought it. Two weeks later the manager called me and said they had made a mistake, it was 8.9%. I reminded him the contract was signed by both parties showing 4.9%, he suggested I could return the vehicle and he would refund my money or he was going to change the finance rate to 8.9% Luckily my brother is a lawyer in Vancouver (purchased vehicle from Brian Jessel) and one letter from his firm got them off my back. Bottom line is, a car salesman is a car salesman - dont trust them "as far as you can throw them"...
