Panoramic Roof Problem
Hi all - I posted this in the X5 E53 section as they use the same panoramic roof cassette as in the X3 and a few members have also had issues, but this is my story :-
Nice sunny day and had the panoramic roof open, when came to close it from the raised positions, the far rear left hand corner (as you sit in it) would not close. It seemed to try but just as though the anti - jam function was in operation it would not close at all. Could not see anything in the rails and tried some lube spray on the wedge but it still would not close. Bit of a problem if the weather was closing in so ran it straight down to the stealer for a look. Initial reaction from a tech was - "Oh! had one in yesterday with the same thing - it will need a new roof". The service manager booked it in for a diagnostic and guess what - told it needs a new roof but they had contacted BMW UK and to my utter amanzement and his, they had agreed to 100% parts and 100% labour contribution. Said he rarely sees a 100% contribution. Also said that it was an updated part that would be fitted. Told me the roof was £ 1995 inc VAT and labour booked for 5 hours would have been £ 700 - The car is exactly one year out of Warranty (2004 model) with 38,000 miles on the clock I am to say the least very pleased !!! I think that this must be an acknowledged issue within BMW otherwise I cannot see why they would go so far. |
