arghhhhhhhhhh 2006 X3 3.0 details

BMW NA just posted info on the 2006 X3. Much speculation went around what the trims would be, especially engine wise...this is the final answer: deletion of the 2.5 model, only 1 trim remains, the 3.0i.

Wherever you’re headed, on or off road, you’ll get there quicker in the 2006 X3 3.0i SAV®. One touch of the M Sport Steering wheel, and you know, this isn’t just any all-wheel drive vehicle. With its 3.0-liter, 225-hp inline-six engine and the sure-footed, all-weather handling of its xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system, the X3 is ready for action. The X3’s updated exterior with body colored front and rear bumpers ensure that whether climbing up mountain trails, or a parking garage ramp, the X3 makes a bold statement.

I Like It!
For me/us, the question is do we keep the '01 X5 or,
go hunting for a new X3 in the coming months?

The dough diff is a real consideration: a long ago paid-for,
4 yr old car, vs a new ride...

Not looking for an answer here, just rumbling out loud;
But the new X3 looks fine to my eye...my 330i run the other
day has steered me away from that car, due to its size/space limitations.

You're right, MD. That X3 may take some sales away from the X5. I think they've got it right this time. My wife's X3 simply hauls ass, and it handles even better than my X5.

I have to be honest, though, unless Bangle screws it up really badly, I don't know that I will consider anything else. I just love my X, and it will surely improve with the '07 version. If I like the next X5, my biggest problem will be NOT buying one... It's got performance, luxury, safety, and class. So long as I am fortunate enough to afford it, I am smitten by this car.

BUT... that X3 is just getting better with age. Kudos to the Motorwerk!

Now, if they'd just take that inside exhaust pipe and move it all the way over to the right,....

With the current, and probable future, state of gas prices, they may regret their decision to drop the 2.5. My wife's 2.5 gets fantastic mileage for a truck that has as much interior space as most larger SUV's. The acceleration is pretty decent too because of the light weight; better, in fact, than our last Jeep with the 3.7 L engine. I think it's a great vehicle and engine combo for the times.

I just finished playing around on the BeamER site, "pricing out" cars...
a new '06 3.0 X3, 6 Spd, Prem/Cold/Sport etc. for about 43Gs:
http://byo.bmwusa.com/configurator/c...=XAB60BMS201A0

Obviously diff cars, but the new X5 with sim stuff to the X3, (and very sim to our 4 yr old '01 3.0 X5), is : 51Gs.
http://byo.bmwusa.com/configurator/c...=XAB60BMS191A0

I am surprised the official wheel choice is so narrow on both the X3 and X5, and I am not a fan of any of the choices, espc on the X3.

This is the Sport Wheel, :

And, this is a much better looking 18" wheel, but Not avail. w/Sport, other than a Stlr swap out. Dumb, imo.:

Interesting to noodle around there, however.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I like the Sport Package wheels either. They kinda look like a Ferrari 5 spoke, but not completely. At least they're new for `06....

To my eye they are nearly identical to my wife's '03 Honda CR-V pos stock 15' wheels. But, everyone has their own bag. Still interested in the X3 to poss. replace our '01 X5 sometime in future. BR,md
