Panoramic Roof Won't close...
Only the slide mechanism on the driver's side would operate. And I don't know why? I finally had to use a flat head screw driver to force the mechanism to slide back so the roof could close (after several tries...) The crappier part is that my warranty JUST expired!! Go figure! Has anyone ever encountered this? I've had issues before but after a couple tries the pana roof would eventually close, but never get stuck like this. I tried to lube the area up but not sure if that was the problem. Anyone else encounter this? I thought maybe something was jammed in it but I couldn't see anything. UGH!!!! Thanks for any help... It's not uncommon for BMW to fix it on goodwill if it's close to your warranty expiring.

I read about another guy with the same problem. The dealer replaced his sunroof cassette after trying some adjustments but he was still within warranty. Like vinuneuro said, get it to the dealer quick and if you're lucky they'll do you a favor and fix it anyway.
Good Luck!

At first they will probably shoot the price at you, just ask the advisor if there is anything they can do since the warranty JUST expired on such a price job. They are allowed to do a maximum of 2 goodwill claims per vehicle, and has to be under 100K miles. Shouldn't be a problem, just expect to be without your truck for a few days as the parts sill likely need to be ordered.

Cool! I'll give them a try. I'm only about 250 miles over the warranty mileage so hopefully they'll hook me up! Thanks!

Hello!
X3-terrestrial - can i correct you ) This tool can be used when for example your roof has no power. If roof mechanics is broken(like in this case) by manual owerriding you can easily destroy other mechanical parts in your roof. From the other side with tool you can only rotate front roof motor. This motor moves only glass parts. Other parts (wind deflector, shirm) are moved by rear motor. Sometimes two motors are rotating together for properly work. This is why it is not safe to move only one of them. If roof is otside warranty, repair kit can be ordered(its about 300$) It contains all small parts that can be broken. Replacement work is not complicated, but you need to be wery accurate and patient. (it takes 1 or 2 days) Regards

This is a known problem and I have posted on it before - ours went in the same manner as you described - 1 year out of warranty - dealer contacted BMW UK who agreed to replace parts and labour under warranty - work took 1 day.
They replace it with an "updated" roof cassette. Search my posts for a full review |
