Remove Roof Rails???
I'm a newbie, but I've searched a couple of the forums here trying to find the answer to my question, but with no luck.
The question is, if I remove the roof rails that came on my '04 X3, are there OEM or aftermarket plugs available to seal the holes left in the roof? I like the idea of no roof rails and like the pics of X3's on this forum that have been ordered without rails in Europe. Are the plugs or something available to seal the holes against weather? Really appreciate any help! Cheers.... ![]() |

You could probably find some rubber or silicone plugs to fit the holes at a local auto parts store like Pep Boys. The only other option would be to have the holes welded up and repaint the top.

i used tail light tint vinyl and just stuck it over the hole. my car is black so you cant see it at all and its a nice thin piece so you dont have bulky black rubber doughnuts sticking up. the vinyl is thick and sturdy and stands up well to the heat well and hasnt started to lift at all. You can find the vinyl at hobby stores and it comes in a variety of different colors to match your car color

sorry tjunkers I cant show you a X3, I own a X5 . I was just cruising through your forum and saw your post. I would say do it anyway. I was a bit hesitant doing mine even after looking at some pics of others without rails but I went ahead and did it anyway and I can say that it was the second best mod Ive done on my car(first is rims) and using the extra tint laying around it was by far the cheapest mod to date. best bang for the buck and gives you a sportier look.
