I know there have been issues regarding fuel consumptions before but I don't think there has been one about diesel engines…. well I can't see one anyway
I have a 2007 new shape X3 35d M sport diesel. Comes with automatic as standard. 24,000 miles
Quoted figures from BMW Urban 29.1 mpg, extra urban 42.2mpg, and combined 36.2mpg.
For the last year I have owned it I have averaged between 21 – 25 mpg. This is on a manual calculation after every and concurrent fill up
The average does not seem to matter if I drive with a heavy right foot or gently at 60 mph. I have done both motorway driving and town drives. My journey to work, around 20miles, involves both motorways and A roads.
My collegue who has the exact same model abit with fewer toys, averages in the region of 32-39mpg. While I get about 400 miles on a full tank, 68liters, he manages more like 540 miles.
I have asked BMW and the dealer and have so far I have been fobbed off.
My car is however going in for the problem to be checked over.
I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts. Is this reasonable fuel consumption? Are there any known issues?
