X3 Sunroof

Today I was going to open the sunroof and let the sun shine in. I pressed the switch to retract the covers and they retracted back into the roof. I pressed the button to open the glass panels and nothing. The covers are not able to close.

If I am looking at the parts illustrations there two electric motors, in in the front hidden by the control switch and one in the rear. They both have the same illustration number and part number. If this is correct, is the sunroof controller timed by the cable track?

If someone has the information, a schematic would be appreciated. The is no really good service manual available for the X3 but there are manuals for the 3 series vehicles. I guess my second question is where to get the factory X3 manual. My dealers just says the X3 manual is not available.

Thanks in advance!

BMW service information is available at www.bmwtis.com but note that you will pay.

Another route for BMW serivce data info is eBay, where you can buy a CD or DVD with the TIS on it. These contain proprietary BMW service info that is being bootlegged. The CDs generally contain information for all models, but you do have to be careful to get a CD that is recent enough to cover your vehicle.

Some eBay sellers sell whole sets of CDs that also have the parts manual (ETK or EPC), electrical, etc, as well.
