How to get a beep when locking car via remote?

How can I get a confirmation beep for when I lock my doors via the remote on my 2004 X3?

It's one of the features programmed by the dealer.

Not so sure with the X3 but on the X5 you tell the dealer to program the security option of the vehicle. Check the configuration sheet on the Articles section.

To get an audible confirmation, the alarm needs to be installed. Without the alarm, a visible indication is possible if programmed by the stealer - the clown nose will flash intermittently, and the exterior lights will flash once. Had an '04 X3 with the alarm, and got the audible confirmation when the doors were locked. I now have an '06 X3 without the alarm, and only the visble indication was possible.

On a 3-series or X3, you can only get visual confirmation. For audible confirmation, you need to install the alarm.
