Arrow My BMW Remote iPhone App - remote functions for F25 (Europe only at this point)

BMW has just released an iPhone app offering remote functions:

- Remote Door Lock & Unlock
- Remote Climate Control
- Remote Light Flash: remote control of configurable exterior light functions to locate the vehicle
- Google Local Search: address destination search on the iPhone and transfer to the vehicle navigation system
- Vehicle Finder: display of current vehicle position on a map in the iPhone - for locating a parked car within a radius of up to 1,5 kilometre.

Currently available in iTune store in europe including UK and Germany.
I expect North America should get it soon.

The technical requirements for using BMW Assist are as follows:
Professional or Business navigation system with integrated Bluetooth telephone preparation.
• BMW 7 Series built from October 2010
• BMW 5 Series built from October 2010
• BMW X3 built from November 2010

For any other BMW model built from September 2008*,
you can use the following services:
- Remote Door Lock & Unlock
- Google Local Search: address destination search on the iPhone and transfer to the vehicle navigation system
*Except X3 models built before September 2010 and Z4 models built before 2009.

My BMW Remote for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad on the iTunes App Store

Wow that is pretty awesome but it does make you think now how easy it is to unlock a car and if there are ppl dedicated enough to be able to hack these sort of things =/ But for those who forget their keys in the car now you have a back up!

The demo looks quite fun with various functions on offer as described. In the UK you need to have a current BMW Assist contract plus a username and password. I can't do any more with it as I'm still awaiting delivery of my E71 and have no idea what hardware will actually be included. It's due to be built this week (Week 40) and there is considerable debate about which options for the CIC system will be included. The spec sheet shows three codes that my dealer is uncertain about. 6VC, 8TL and 8TN. Using this site I've worked out what 6VC is (but not whether it will actually be fitted), and what 8TL might be, but we can find nothing on 8TN! It's another Daytime Running Lights option, but for what?

Once it turns up I'll have a play with the remote app and see what it does. Given delivery is still at least 6 weeks away, you may have the App by then anyway

I've been trying the app on an iPad and it works great with my X5 M, my only minor gripe is that the vehicle can only be tracked within 1.5km of my current position, it would be nice to be able to track it anywhere, why the 1.5km limitation?
