2011 X3 2.8 Warm Up Time
This is my 5th BMW and I find that in comparison, this X3 car takes forever to warm up (temp gauge goes to the center). Without exaggeration, I need to drive for about 15 minutes, at 30-40 MPH, until the car is warm and the transmission behaves properly. The weather had not even gotten cold yet. My previous BMWs used to warm up in 2-3 minutes. I anyone with the 2.8 experiencing the same issue? |

The F25 has an OIL temperature gauge, as opposed to the coolant temperature gauges found on older BMWs and almost every other car. Engine oil takes much longer to warm up but is a better indicator of the readiness state of the drivetrain than coolant temp.
In fact with the electric coolant pump, modern BMWs get up to operational temperature much faster than older ones, and are also more efficient. |
