Need Starter Advise ASAP

I thought I had this car all fixes up good, and it throws this at me. Car starter will not engage. It doesn't even try. I have almost 14 volts on the battery. So I know the batt and alt are good.

What could it be. Does the starter go bad or could it just be a relay somewhere?

The solenoid on the starter is the relay that sends current to the starter motor. Most likely you need a new starter.

^ Could very well be this.

Do of course check all fuses, and I would also try shifting to N and try to start, and back to P, if it starts it might be the neutral safety switch.

Give the starter a thump with a piece of wood and try to start it, sometime it gets the starter started and will at least confirm that's the problem.

Shouldn't the starter give you a warning that it is going bad. Like slow cranking for a while? I haven't had any indication of a weak starter

Update, I thought I somehow fried the PCM, so I had to disconnect the batt and wait 20 mins the touch the cables to short. It fixed the problem and now I am able to attempt starts.

What happens is everything looks normal as it comes on, then when starting all I hear is very light clicking. Sounds like igniters to me. But not even a groan out of the starter.

Somebody please help. I have a important road trip planned.

Now no clicking when trying to start, just a strange electronic sound coming from the box next to the intake on top.

You should add your vehicle to your signature so others know what you have and are asking about.

Starters do not always give warning when going out. Slow cranking would be a dying battery.

If you turn the key and you hear a rapid clicking when attempting to start, it could be a weak battery as the starter is trying to engage. If you are turning the key and nothing happens it could be a bad starter.

I just got under the car and had my wife try to start. There was definitely a sound coming from the starter, but no crank. It was a light click, not as loud as I have heard in other types of cars when the solenoid is working but not turning.
