Power steering fluid leaking from rack directly?

Ive been chasing a power steering fluid leak recently....I thought it was coming from the lines and reservoir, so i replaced all lines, washers, & reservoir. Every week or so, I get a fresh puddle of shiny red power steering fluid right underneath the RS power steering rack bellows, and it is wet with fluid. My only guess is that it is coming from the rack itself where the shaft goes in & out of the rack & pinion on the RS from inside the boot? Has anyone else seen this before? I have no leaks for a week or so at all, then all of a sudden I have a puddle the size of a deck of cards after I park it and it sits for a while one day randomly.

Yes racks do develop leaks. They are not user-serviceable due to the tolerances involved. If your ps rack is leaking, it's time to replace it generally

Mine was leaking out the ends. Got a rebuilt unit from these guys. Had it about 18 months now with no trouble

Thanks for sharing the link. Took a look at the prices. If I had a 2007-2010 X5 I wouldn't want to be replacing the rack - $1300! Ouch.
