X5 4.8is on track and with sports exhaust

You guys will love this...

http://www.trackdaycam.co.uk/Milltek...tleCombeX5.wmv

I was there going round in my M3 CSL and watched Thorney catch and then pass the Caterham. His 4.8is sounded awesome and was noticeably quicker lapping than a Jaguar XK8 that was also on track at the time. What an amazing car, with better brakes he could have lapped all day. Try that in your typical SUV... :p

p.s. the exhaust is the one I've referred to in the past that Thorney Motorsport have developed together with Milltek. I had a drive around the carpark and if you love the sound of the 4.8is then you'll love it even more with one of these.

Cool vid.....

Was the suspension stock as the body roll/turn in seemed first rate?

Absolutley stock suspension on the track. Thorney previously had the lowering module fitted to his car but he had taken it off when driving around Combe. In the first minute of the video the lowering module 'was' fitted and it was being driven on the road at it's lowest setting.

Apparently the lowering module works fine, but it involves splicing into the wiring to fit and Thorney has decided to have it modified so that the version available for sale will use standard BMW connectors and not require splicing.

Cool video and the exhaust sounds great.

At first I was thinking "this bloody idiot is driving and videoing at the same time? "

Then I remembered that you are in England and have a RHD vehicle. Doh!!

The exhausts are supplied through an agent for Thorney Motorsport in the US. Contact 'Thorney' and he can arrange to put you in contact. Just send him a PM or contact John Thorne on 0044 1494 730720 email: [email protected].

steve, please post when he gets this up and running. i really wanted this module but wasn't looking forward to the involved splicing. doing the module with bmw connectors would be just what i'm looking for.

Yeah the suspension module is a pita to fit hence we're adapting it to plug and play with a custom connector.....not a quick process I'm afraid.

We deliberately drove it in stock settings and on 20" rims to demonstrate how capable the stock car is......when the AP's, suspension are sorted we'll do another test to see the diff.....weakest link were the brakes, knackered after 3 laps.

Milltek have a US distributor http://www.stratmosphere.com/index.htm I belive they have ordered some X5 systems to stock following the success of testing in the UK. Any questions I'm happy to help.
