Help Engine Failsafe after coolant transfer pipe replacement

I just did the URO collapsible pipe replacement and replace the valley pan, the ccv tubes etc. I had the battery disconnected. When I went to restart it sputtered a few times I figure due to the fuel line being disconnected. When it started it idles at about 1000 rpms then it starts bouncing to about 1200 rpms. It sounds like someone is just tapping the throttle constantly. The engine failsafe comes on. I disconnected the battery again to try to reset the computer but I get the same thing. I really need to get this back on the road. I do not have an OBDII scanner.

You should buy an OBD II scanner and see if there are any trouble codes. Is the SES or CEL light on right now?

I know I need one. I can't believe BMW does not have a way to view them. Most cars I have owned have some kind of way to see them.

The Service Engine Soon light is on, the brake light, and the 4x4 light

When you did the repair, you had to take off the valvetronics. Hopefully you marked them how they were positioned. When you re-installed them, they should go in the same position. And left to left right to right.
before starting the engine, the next step is to re-learn the valvetronics position. You should hear them whirring. if you didn't do that, the camshaft gets misaligned, hopefully you didn't do any extensive damage.
Try resetting the valvetronics. If the issue persists, you might have damaged a few components of the engine. Also, if you followed the proper procedure of removing/installing the valvetronics, then there is something else and disregard my comments.

I marked the servos and replaced them in the exact position they were in. The drive side one was a little more difficult to get in. I turned the key in the on position for a few minutes before I tried to start it. How would I reset them? When would I hear this whirling? I appreciate the help

Key in Pos II. Engine off. Wait about 45-50 seconds. If you leave the hood open and step out of the car while the key is in Pos II, after about 35 sec or so you should hear the valvetronics whirring and resetting.

The more orthodox method is to reset them with GT1 or similar.

I do not hear the servos whirling when the key is turned to pos II. I just hear a click about every 20-30 seconds.

The car sat for awhile before I disconnected the battery. It could be low. I will add a charge to it after work. I did remove the support for the terminal on the driverside when i pulled out the cabin filter box.

When I turn the key to POS II the 4x4 and SES light come on instantly. When I start it the brake light comes on after a couple seconds. Sometimes it idles smooth for 30 secs at 1000 rpms then it just starts bouncing between 1000 to 1200

to get rid of the three dashboard lights, just start the car and turn the steering wheel left lock to right lock. those lights come on when ever the batt is disconnected.

Well the battery was about a volt low. I charged it over night and reconnected it this morning let the key sit in pos II for a couple minutes. Tried to start it first time it died then it started right up doing what it was doing before. I am picking up an OBD II scanner this weekend. Does a standard one work or do I need an adapter?
