Key Fob Remote Not Working

Does not function for lock/unlock. Is the battery replaceable? Don't want to wreck it getting it apart. Do i have to buy a new one? Advise appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Reinitializing your remote keys doesn't work either? If you haven't tried that yet...remember all the tips that go along with not having program failure:
  • KL R = ignition position 1 (not 2 or 3 or engine running)
  • make sure all doors are UNLOCKED
  • make sure alldoors are CLOSED
  • only insert the 1st remote into the ignition & remove it in STEP 2
  • start programming any other remote you have on STEP 3 where you start pressing the buttons...if you insert another key into the ignition before all remote keys have been programmed...you will start a new session...thus any keys done prior to the last ignition insertion will no longer be programmed

I also wanted to mention as a reminder, if you haven't driven the car for months, key battery is getting discharged. I saw many people have this syndrome and purchasing keys going to many processes..

If the engine is starting and you can drive the car it is good. My key started to operate normally 3 days after I purchased the car.
Forums say 30 minutes of driving make enough recharge to open and close more than 10 times.
It was not my case..

KL R is the first ignition position when turning the ignition on...if you go to inigion position 2 (KL 15) then you've gone too far and the GM won't go into initialization mode.

  • KL 0 = off
  • KL R = ignition position 1
  • KL 15 = ignition position 2
  • KL 30 = ignition position key returns to after starting
  • KL 50 = start position

You rock!

My main key stopped working after I killed the battery running my CD player for 3 hours while trying to fix the folding mirrors... the key was in the ignition lock and after I trickle-charged the battery back to full health, the remote key didn't work!

Thanks for the programming guide - I now have one less reason to be bullied into buying a Tahoe
