Question L.E.D. Dome light conversion

Hey peeps,

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a upgrade for the dome light to L.E.D.

I've bought a couple L.E.D. bulbs that barely fit (really only the map lights I could replace by putting the bulb from the open end of the dome light assembly.)

The bulbs are apparently 1mm too wide to fit through the holes and I'm having trouble getting off the clear plastic housing off to access the main dome light bulb to install the L.E.D. bulb.

I thought I saw somewhere that there was a entire dome light assembly that was made of all L.E.D. bulbs.

Thank you for any helpful information!

The dome light assembly must be removed, then the clear cover is unscrewed

Here's a link for the install

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
^^This. did mine in January 2012

You do need slim bulbs though as the map lights is a tight fit for those 194 bulbs

Did mine with Phillips brand bulbs, (194's i believe) they work great! nice white lights, they fade in and out as they are supposed to!
if i recall, it was a bit of a bear to get the front lens off to change out the map lights, i had a bent tab that someone had jammed back into place and it hooked up all wrong ended up fixing it with a wrecker replacement.

There are several sources for a complete set of interior very white LED bulbs. Inexpensive very noticeable upgrade. I also changed to LEDs in the license plate bulbs. Here's one- http://www.bimmian.com/Interior-Xeno...for-BMW-E53-X5

Finally was able to switch out that bulb.

Now I gotta find a way to change out the mirror/puddle bulbs w/o damaging the mirrors.

I updated for the entire car including the license plate and side mirror bulbs. Here's the DIY for the side mirrors:
