e46 clocks in x5 ?

Hi, sending my clocks off to be fixed, and was wondering if the e46 clocks would fit while they are away?

Something must be lost in translation...at least for me...I don't understand what your meaning of "clocks" is in this situation. Perhaps a simple point in direction as to what part of the vehicle is being referred to.

The only thing that comes to mind when you mention "clock" is the actual time clock (which is in the IKE), or the slip ring (aka clock spring)...but both of those are singular...and you are asking about "clocks" (plural).

Okay...so are you referring to the entire instrument cluster...or the individual clocks behind each of the dials in the instrument cluster?

If you're referring to the instrument cluster...you don't say which one you have...high cluster or low cluster. I believe the e46 only came with the low cluster (has the graphic display for check control warnings). The e53 can have either the low cluster or the high cluster with the 20 digit alpha/numeric display...which communicates over the I-bus...which the low cluster doesn't...it is a K-bus component.

Also, installing a cluster from another BMW will cause the odometer tamper dot to illuminate because the LCM & IKE won't have the same VIN, mileage, and SI information. If you drive over 120 miles/200 kilometers...without the matching IKE & LCM, then you'll register a fault (see data point #5 in the info below).

The instrument cluster (IKE) is also ZKE coded...meaning that it has information about transmission, engine, and other options etc...so if these things aren't the same...the cluster isn't going to work properly...especially if one is for a manual...or an automatic that is 5 spd and the other has a 6 spd auto tranny.

I'd try to schedule to send the cluster in for repair where you can take advantage of not requiring to drive...or can have others pick you up.

I just went through a similar situation as you, I sent the cluster for my e38 in for pixel repair...so I just let her sit and drove the X only until the cluster came back.
