Miss information

I have done this job on my 4.8 and their is no need for any special tool for cooling fan. Their are 2 plastic clips under air intake you remove disconnect hoses and wires and fan assembly slides up and out. Their is no way VR can be changed without removal of alternator. It is so tight you can not see or access wires on back. You must pull it forward after bolt removal to access wires. Only special need is a T 60 torx to release belt tension.

Hi Astrok:

I have a 2004 X5 4.4i and need to replace Voltage Regulator or Alternator. I have done this job on my 330i, but taking the X5 fan out seems little intimidating; therefore, wondering if you have any pictures/instructions that will help me in this job.

Thanks,

If you have the mechanical fan clutch, get the special tool to hold the pulley and the 32mm wrench.

Alternator Replacement

I have Electrical fan and need some guidance on how to remove it; unless alternator can be replaced without removing the fan.

Thanks,
