Brake job on Dr Kewl's X5 done

about a 2 hr job... with 1 hour in between for lunch somewhere so we ended up at about 3 hrs? that sound right doc?

Dr Kewl took some awesome shots. We'll put together a tech article on a full brake maintenance procedure (minus the fluid flush).

new rule at hayaku motorsports: ALWAYS check which direction the impact wrench is set to!

Dr Kewl, sent you a PM of my other email address for you to send the rull sized pics to.

Glad to see someone else that does their own brakes. Freaking rip off at the dealer.

I will be doing mine next weekend or sometime in that range. I am going to paint the calipers to.

I always do my own work, all of it... I don't trust most of the techs they hire to do the work...

Besides, I like knowing for sure every single bolt is torqued to the correct spec.

I don't even go any place for alignments either...

Yeah, it seems like the "Stealers" love to use their impact guns to tighten everything to >100 lb/ft torque

I think I should have painted my calipers.....they definitely look like 118K miles worth of use.

Very nice. When Chas. told me he was having his mechanic do the install after his stop at Crevier for parts, he didn't tell me it was you. Damn, I wish I still lived in OC with you living 20 min. away

Talking

The X5 is my daily driver! Luckily these days my communte is about 10-15 miles a day total!

The X5 is holding up very well. In fact, while on Hayaku's lift, the front and rear suspension looks great. No problem with the control arm bushing yet.

It needs a detail. I think the sunroof cassette is starting to rattle just like all my older BMWs. The tailgate will rattle when the temps are cold but lately it's been nice and warm in SoCal. The engine still revs freely to 6500 rpm and handles like no other SUV. In fact, I truly believe the few hundred pounds saving off the front end in the 3.0i does make the X5 3.0i turn-in more quicker than any of the V8 version of the X5. Though, after driving the 4.8iS, I was seduced by the power! But alas, the M3 takes care of that.

You'll see pics soon with Hayaku's DIY article!

I agree, I think the 3.0is suspension is the best of bunch and feels more balanced than the 4.4i....I can really feel the difference in front end handling/suspension on the 3.0i vs. the 4.4i...

The real question is how long will it take to do the flush and brake job on Dr Kewl??
