Air con only fills half way?

2002 e53 3.0d. Had my air con recharged today. He was planning on putting in 450g of gas but couldn't get more that 265 grams in. It appears only one side was filled. Any ideas why? It's now cooler than it was but no where near as much as it should be ?

Was the system evacuated before recharging or did you recharge without evacuating?

Fully evacuated on new machine. Existing gas recovered. Dye added but would only take 265 back

What was the air ambient temperature and what were the low side and high side pressure readings on the gauges?

Hopefully since you're across the pond, the pressure reading will be pounds per square inch (psi) and the temp will be Fahrenheit and not Celsius.

I didn't see the readings. It's was around 8.5 bar of pressure. Ambient temperature yesterday was around 90f outside so it' was bloody hot !! lol. The garage seemed to think something may be blocked. The Dryer? But realistically would have to be put into the diagnostic machine to tell. This alone is £60 before any work undertaken and Tagus a good rate

8.5 bar is only 123 psi. I'm assuming this is your high side reading and not the static reading. 123 psi would indicate a worn compressor if this is the high side reading. Could also be the reason why you couldn't add more refrigerant into the system since a worn compressor will also affect the low side or suction side.
