wipers NOT stopping??

brought my car to Momentum BMW in Houston. When I got the car back the windshield wipers wouldn't stop working. Even with the car is off the windshield wiper keeps running. It was not like that before I brought it in. What could be the problem. They had to pull the fuse to make it stop running. Thank you.

Nothing. Had them do a check up to see what else besides the DSC was giving me grief. For $168 for an inspection, was not expecting to have the X come back with more issues than what I brought in.

Well it reared its ugly head again. Changed the battery thinking it was low voltage making things go weird but it came back. Anyone have a write up on how to replace the switch (hoping this would fix it). Thanks!

Called a friend about some wiring thing I was doing and mentioned this to him. Apparently the rain sensor is beat. Going to unplug it from the rear view mirror and see if the wipers still run when the ignition is off.

Could a loose relay cause this?

Drove from Houston to Port Fourchon and I plugged the fuse back in and it worked fine until I went over some bumps on I10. Then it wouldn't shut off again (not that it was a bad thing since the dog was so dense). Hit another bump and it went back to normal. It would do this every so often.

I opened where the relay was located and it seemed a little loose so I unplugged and replugged it in. It's OK now but don't want to wake up tomorrow to find scratches on my windshield with the wipers going.

Thanks!

Chivas, it COULD be a relay.
Certainly sounds "switch" related since hitting a bump activated/deactivated the wipers.
buy one to try it out.

so are you saying that when the key is out of the ignition and everything "should" be "off" including the wipers...that they are still going??

if so, I would definitely replace the relay.

that gets battery power. the switch gets it after the relay. a relay stuck open would possibly cause this issue but I dont have the wiring diagram in front of me to prove that. after the relay is the switch. I would not blame a fuse as they are the "weak link" in this type of system. but who knows with the way the germs wire things. for all we know, it could be a worn contact point in the swivel in the steering wheel...or a worn spring in the wiper mechanism on the column...only testing will find it.

is there a wiper control module in the E53's?

Google searched and some models came with wiper modules but I haven't ready anything here (or anywhere) that indicates our X has this.

I pulled the relay and checked it out. It doesn't look like any corrosion or malfunction though I didn't give it juice to fully test it out. Stealer wants $33 for this part; Amazon: $19 for the exact same thing.

I've got a stalk to replace too but didn't realize how involved it is going to be (airbag removal!?? really? steering removel!!? REALLY?!?!?). might go ahead and do this today... in. the. rain. irony.
