temp gauge shows hot when car cold
I just removed and reinstall water pump(to change the gasket) on my x5 2001 v8 M62 as soon i turned the ignition to the second position temp gauge shoots to the roof... the car is cold... I bled the system several times removed every hose making sure there is water everywhere and added coolant again and re-bled and still same problem I connected the temp sensor on the water pump the one on the lower radiator hose... did i forgot to connect a sensor? idont see anything i checked resistance to sensor according to a threat and sensor is good\ Temp gauge shoots to the roof even if both sensors are disconnected Please help...!!!!!

The temp sensor could have gone bad during the install, or the connection could be bad or the wiring shorted. Since you said the sensor tests good I would check the plug wiring.

update
Just an update on my problem because after researching online it seems like not a common problem but it happens.
I had checked the sensor .. all the connections, voltage and resistance to temp sensor, plug and wiring, bought new sensors and the problem persisted. So i disconnected the battery for an hour or so and seems like the problem is solved... so for future reference ... if it looks like an electrical/ sensor error.... disconnect the battery for a while(more than 20 min at least), and hopefully problem will resolve it self:?
