Did you know there was a recall for Aux Fans on 2001 X5?

In all the talk and griping about Aux fan issues, I haven't seen any mention of this. In 2002, BMW had a big campaign to replace 250k fans for the exact same reasons we are still seeing. Anyone actually get their fan replaced under the recall?

Yep. It was a problem with the switch/wiring that would not turn on the fan after shutdown. And the 50A fuse wouldn't break, so the parts just smoldered. Caused more than a few very nice homes in the US to burn down- starting in the garage. The recall started in the year 2001.

My 05/2000 E39 540 was not a part of the recall. My mother in law's '01 E53 was. Both are still running great.

Yes, here...way back in 2002.
Sort of really old 'news', but maybe not for 2nd/3rd/4th owner when the orig owner missed the recall.
