What are you using for extra trunk/storage space

Kids stuff fills up the trunk real fast.
Add summertime and a 50 gallon ice chest to boot.

I have a hitch so I'm considering the foldaway rack with a soft bag to use when I need the extra storage room.

Just curious how ya'll deal.
Thule hitch hardbox ?

Soft bags uptop roof ?

I have a Thule and Yakima roof box, depending on what I need to carry.

We have a Yakima hard shelled roof rack but in general use a Chevy Tahoe (roof rack works there as well). The Tahoe has a trailer hitch and when I am in need of far more space I have an 800lb axled and fold-able trailer (essentially 4x8x4). The X5 would handle that easily if I had a hitch on it.

I've pulled a 4x6 enclosed trailer on family outing trips. I'm considering a hard-shell roof box, tho, as I hate pulling a trailer...

andrewwynn will become famous soon enough
I use this

See the off-the shelf model referenced by somebody in the thread, i recently saw a large water proof zipper bag intended to go on same such rack.

I also designed and build crossbars from unistrut giving me hard mount points using 1/2" bolts anywhere i might want, pretty limitless other than the 100kg roof loading rating.
