X5 Puddle lamp bulbs

has anyone attempted to change the puddle lamp bulb in the side mirrors of the X5 with something more like a white led instead of the yellow 5 W bulb. If you have added an led please do tell. Conventional led bulb will not work.

I used cheap... emphasis on cheap (like <$3) ebay LED bulbs that are designed for license plate lighting. They are wedge style and short with LED chips facing down. Worked a treat and haven't had any problems with them... just had them lying around so threw them in.

Jay, you need to be sure to buy Canbus Error free bulbs with the built in resistors on those mirror puddle lights (a pair is probably $4 on Ebay, prices have come down a ton over the years). All the exterior bulbs are monitored by the Canbus, unlike the interior bulbs which can all be swapped to conventional LED's.

Alternatively, you can put a conventional LED in the mirrors but you will need to wire in a resistor on one side to trick the circuit.

Okay Jay thanks for the response. I just wanted to make sure about the canbus type bulb before purchasing a set.
