Soft Close Trunk Retrofit NOT Possible

Just for the record, since there isn't much info on this anywhere..

I pulled the servo lock, big rubber bump stop, and GM3 (general) module off a junk car to try to retrofit soft close to my 4.6is. As it turns out, the wiring harness is not the same, and there are 2 wires for the soft close that don't exist on the pre-facelift models.

These wires are part of the car's main wiring harness and run all the way up to the general module behind the glove box. So unless you want to rip your whole car apart for the soft close feature, then it's not going to work.

Disappointing, but putting it out there for anyone else who is thinking of trying.

I want to do it.
Anyone done it?
Need part numbers or pictures for what's needed.
GM3 module is not hard to find.

If you have a facelift then you already have the soft-close actuator.

so we talking about if you dont shut it fully and it pulls itself in shut , rather than it closing from fully open.

Correct... the soft-close function works only to lock the hatch without slamming it.

No E53 ever had the fully electric open/close tailgate. You could possible retro-fit such a feature but I've not seen anyone do it.

Something like this might work... https://www.autoease.com/product/liftgate/

Unless of course your 17 year old daughter doesn't understand the concept of "just set it down honey, it will pull itself closed" - "SLAM!!!!" - anyway...
