I'm pretty sure you could make the E70 unit work on an E53. Maybe not not advanced functions like opening with the key fob etc. but certainly the basic lift functions...

I'm wondering about that too. There're parts from E70 that just plug and play on the E53. I wonder if this is yet another one.

Oh lord there is nothing like a supermarket bag boy..... You have to preface the load with "there's a tip in it for you if you don't slam the hatch or doors clear through the other side of the car"... and even that only works about half the time

That's why the F15 is the grocery getter. Power liftgate has permeated the auto market enough now that every bagger knows to look for a button.

Bag boy, bag person, whatever. I'm not crippled. I take my groceries to my car and load them myself. Don't ever have to worry about someone slamming my lid.
