Seems like everyone is telling you to check your alternator.

Why don't you try that?

However, after driving the X5 about 1 mile, I got the "Service Engine Soon" light, and reading the ECU yielded:

- O2 Sensor adaptation limit (1-3)
- O2 Sensor adaptation limit (4-6)

So, I drove it about 5 miles more and then the DSC, BRAKE and ABS lights came on.

I had replaced all 4 of the speed sensors about 5 months back, so I doubt it is the sensors.

How could I troubleshoot these two problems (O2 and the speed sensors)?

Yeah too many random non related things popping up. Check the charging system first. start with the easy work to the difficult.

Ok, thanks. I thought the alternator was being suggested just for the transmission light diagnosis and since that had been cured by the new MAF...

Anyway, I will now move on to checking the alternator. Thank you for your help.

How do you "unlock the cluster" ? I read that it should be unlocked to test the alternator. Is that applicable to a 2001 3.0i without NAV?

Ok... I let the car run for like 10 mins while watching the battery voltage. The voltage stayed between 13.8 and 14.1 volts.

I used two different methods to the above: I did it with the cluster test function #9 and I also did it with my OBD-II bluetooth reader w/torque pro software on android. Both reported the same.

So, it looks to me like the battery/alternator are fine and it may have indeed been the MAF that threw that fault. But now I am getting a whole new set of codes (P0172 & P0175) AND the trifecta lights... I will start a separate thread for that so as to not pollute this one further.

Thanks for all your help...
