Oil Temp in High Cluster Text

I was fiddling with my cluster (after unlock) the other day going over various tests and sub-functions. I came across showing Oil Temperature - 48 °C. This was after a short drive.

I can't remember how I got there and now can't get to it again. Can someone chime in which test and sub-function it is under? I know KTMP is under test 7.

Thanks Josh. Starting to wonder if that temperature reading in test 16 is bogus. The original poster in the thread you linked had same reading too.

Can someone else try too that and update? I will check my car later today.

Unless you have an M cluster from the factory...or you're one of the VERY few that actually got an M cluster to fully function in your non M BMW...then TEST 16 doesn't function for you...which is why it always display the negative degree temp reading.

I tested this today at various times, the test 16 oeltemp reading seemed to make sense went up from cold start and it is at 89 to 91 celsius - operating temperature while in motion. The test 7 KTMP was consistent between 103 to 105 celsius during same time just switched back and forth.

So is this normal? Thanks fellas.

Only some cars have oil temp sensor in the pan that provides data to the cluster unlock in this test.

Hi Ven,
Here is an older thread on my oil temp experience with my 2005 4.8is. Has what I know about the sensor in it. I would likely not recommend touching the oil thermostat but I did during my quest of slow warm up. I think my cooling system overhaul helped more on warm up speed due to new cooling tstat and new transmission tstat (plastic bolted to lower main radiator on passenger side where three smaller cooling hoses come together).
