how do you properly check rear suspension bushings?

I bought my wife a 01 e53 3.0 that has 165k on it. Im in the process of going thru it a making it to where it will be like new for at least another 50k or more. I'm looking into the suspension on it and I've checked my front and to my surprise everything is tight .
My question is on the rear suspension, how do I properly unload the suspension to check for play in the bushings? I've seen the videos on YouTube about jacking the rear up by the diff and putting pressure on the a-arm . I've done this but it doesn't seem to take any pressure off anything . My e53 doesn't have air ride. Does this method of testing only apply to sport models? Maybe I'm not putting pressure on the a-arm in the right spot. Hopefully im testing it correctly and my bushings are still good and tight. Btw ,the car handles great and feels tight. Honestly the best riding vehicle ive ever driven . Any help would be greatly appreciated.
