Huh? snap in adapters are for 2011( i think) and newer with smartphone integration or apps in the i drive.... return it. there is no snap in adapter for your truck unless you've somhow managed to retrofit all the new i drive stuff into it.

It defiantly has a slot for the snap in but I just seem to of got the wrong one as will not snap it as to wide, and it was the expensive media option so I guess it would not have worked with a non I drive car anyway

Even if you brought the phone, doubt it will work on any carriers since it's probably an analog phone.

I think some BMW markets may still use analog frequencies....but the owners in Europe, Asia, Africa, & So America would know better than us. The OP is from the UK...so the old phones may still work...but it sounds like they want their iPhone to communicate with their X5...but unfortunately they have the wrong generation X5. His x5 is about 5 years too soon for the technology he wants to use.

It's like buying a DVD of the latest movie...but the only media player at home is a VHS VCR.

They came with Bluetooth modules. It's just an expensive retrofit. I believe you can even read SMS messages with the nav screen

You can get an aftermarket unit to work with the existing radio and speakers. I have a Grom unit installed in my X. I can receive and make calls and stream music to the radio.

Are there any major benefits over just installing an aux cable, using the bluetooth facility (installed in the car already) and steering wheel controls?
The only thing I miss is not being able to scroll through my music library via the steering wheel controls, but this isn't a biggie really. I do notice that if I have my power cord plugged in, I cannot listen to music via the aux cable, as there's an annoying buzz that comes through the stereo. Not a biggie either, as I only listen to my iPhone music library when I can't receive a radio signal (for about 1 hour of my usual trip), then I just listen to the radio or CD's and plug the iPhone back in for charging.
