x5 4.6is replaced gm3 issues. Need help

Hi! I have an -03 4.6is, i bought it about a month ago. It was bought with a broken gm3 unit (no interior lights and no lock/unlock from key fob). I bought a used gm3 unit from a -04 with 4.4 v8. When i plugged it in the interior lights came on right away, and the key fob now works to lock/unlock the car. I was wery happy with that it seemed to work, until i tried to open the trunk. The trunk worked perfectly Before and was the only thing that would open from the key fob Before the switch. Now when i press trunk unlock, either from interior button, key fob, or the handle at back, it releases the lower hatch. The button on the lower hatch does nothing. the only way to open the upper hatch is by using the emergency opening from inside.

Anyone have any suggestions about this issue? Do i need to re-code the used module or in worst case buy a new module.

If the FOB is unlocking the lower hatch and not the upper hatch something is wrong. I don't think that you can unlock the lower hatch with the key fob, only the upper hatch unlock button by the ash tray. The lock / unlock button on the console only unlocks the doors and provides power to the upper hatch microswitch to open the upper hatch.

Did you compare the two unit to see if they have the same part numbers? If they have different part number you can go to realoem.com and see if the part numbers were superceded.

The GM3 module for 04=06 model / year e53 slightly different. They have circuit for soft-close actuator installed on 04-06 e53. The best bet is to try to code new GM3 module using coding software like "NCSExpert". Also, GM3 module controls "Servotronic" steering on 4.6is. Steering will be very tight if servotronic option not enabled in GM3. You will have better chance to resolve issue if you get GM3 module from 02-03 e53.

thx for replyes =) A friend of my recommended bmw Wds. So got it on my computer last night. It seemes that some functions have swapped pins in the wiring harness on the -04 facelift. Everything else works properly without any messages in the instrument cluster, and the truck runs fine. Like i see it i have 3 options.

1. Re-code module, if possible?
2. swap the wire connections at the gm unit
3. Go to the dealer and get a new module installed and coded (expensive)

Sorry for my bad Spelling in English

The car was at the dealer last friday. A new module was fitted and coded. My wallet got 850 dollars lighter. Everything works now exept that the -04 box have burned the servo motor in the upper trunk lid lock. I should have left it to the dealer in the first place
