Don't let us sway you either way and you already know what you want to do. What updated electronics are you referencing are not on the E53? As far as input, what you have written favors the E53.

E39 M5, and the E53 X5 are the two best made. Find low mileage ones and stay for life.

Now the X5M is a beast but new we are talking 125K, I can own a fleet of BMWs for that money. Need to find a Z M model to take up space in the garage.....

Looks like the e53 is a clear winner. Answer I was looking for I drove the new X5m a few weeks back and all I can say is WOW one of the best all around rides I've driven. If money wasn't any object it would be a different story.
